3 Tips to Educate Children to Learn to Pray

Here are tips on children pursuing prayer:

1. Start by Example

A child will usually quickly catch something according to what he sees. Because the catch that a child has is very high. Therefore, there needs to be a good pilot from his co-star, especially from the parents.

Watching both parents perform prayers five times every day from the beginning, makes the child triggered to imitate. Moreover, the father deliberately taught his son to come to the mosque to perform jama'ah prayer, of course this greatly helped the child's catch in getting used to the environment of people who prayed so as to motivate him to be able to be like what he saw.

This was done by one of the Prophet's companions when teaching other companions to pray in accordance with what was exemplified by the Prophet (peace be upon him). The friend prayed from beginning to end in front of the other companions saying, "Come here! I will show you the nature of the Prophet's prayer.

Examples of teaching methods like this are highly applied by the Prophet and his companions. Thus it is because theory is difficult to understand and takes a long time and even easily forgotten, in contrast to what is experienced and seen directly. This means that parents and educators are not enough to just provide reading books about ablution and prayer or just order children to pray, but they also to give examples of amali practices in front of their children as exemplified by the Prophet (peace be upon him), as well as his educators and companions.

2. Teaching The Pillars and Obligations of Prayer

When the child enters school age then the child begins to be ready to learn the correct prayer procedures in accordance with the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). For example, at times of prayer parents invite children to directly perform prayers with guidance. Starting from thaharah and ablution in children, how to form rows, followed by the correct practice of prayer and memorizing prayers gradually.

This method is done so that the child becomes disciplined in establishing prayer services. Don't forget to be taught about good and correct systematics.

Some parents consider that it is okay to let children make mistakes in every fulfillment of conditions and get along well in prayer. They usually reason that they are still these children, so most principled "still want to pray too", rather than no..!!

As for examples of errors that are often left for example letting children wudhu imperfect, inappropriate clothes and prayer movements that tend to be perfunctory. The education that is inged will be obtained when it is taught early on. Therefore, parents should always pay attention to the mistakes and mistakes made by the child in carrying out the practice of prayer.

Please note that although the laws of Shari'ah do not yet apply to children, Allah (SWT) commands and burdens the guardians to impose the laws of Shari'ah on their children.

The Prophet said: "Command your children to pray when they are 7 years old and beat them if they leave when they are 10 years old." (HR. Abu Dawud)

The hadith above clearly instructs us to be serious in preparing the education of prayer in children. Because prayer is one of the pillars of Islam whose laws must be done and haram to be left for anyone who has puberty. Therefore, it is mandatory for every parent to always teach children the practice of prayer from an early age.
